How can one claim to work on geopolitics and strategy on their LinkedIn profile without analyze the horrific events unfolding in Palestine since October 7, 2023? If one claims to live in a "democratic state," how can not use the freedom of expression to address the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, and draw lessons from it so that younger generations of Arabs and Jews are not crushed by the mistakes of their elders, and succeed to go on a path of peace and development?
On November 9, 1989, I watched on TV the fall of the Berlin Wall, and later the dissolution of Union of Soviet Socialist Republic on December 25, 1991, marking the end of a ideological-military Empire that everyone believed to be all-powerful and unbreakable.
And then I saw Saddam Hussein's tanks invade the small Kuwait, and the Western military coalition launch its offensive into the desert on January 16, 1991. And in 2003, I saw the most powerful military armada, led by the US, achieve the hugest geopolitical failure with the emergence of the ISIS monster in the Iraqi-Syrian region, the quasi partition of Iraq, and the collapse on August 15, 2021, of the Afghani President Ashraf Ghani artificial state, followed by the shameful retreat of the US armed forces.
Even empires as seemingly powerful as the Red Empire can collapse. Even states artificially created in Washington or Brussels, Moscow or Tehran, are fragile in the face of a people's will. If people can learn from the failures of the elders, and give a new form to their breathe of life.
The 70,000 deaths in the Gaza Strip, to which we must add 10,000 buried under rubble, represent a greater failure than the hundreds of thousands of deaths in the recent wars in Yemen, Sudan, Ethiopia, and the Congo, because the awful pogrom launched by Hamas and then the bombings on the Gaza Strip by the Israeli army for the past three years, benefit from greater exposure on screens all over the world.
The 80,000 Palestinian deaths signify the failure of all Western international institutions, from the UN to the G20, from the EU to the American Democratic and Republican parties. The situation of starving prisoners in the Gaza Strip signifies the failure of all Islamic and Arab institutions, which, despite the huge wealth acquired among the Gulf States, have not succeeded in moderate Hamas and Israel.
Young Arab generations must learn from the failure of Hamas which has humiliated the Arab and Muslim world by hiding in tunnels. Young Arab generations must rediscover the shining strength of the Muslim pioneers who built the magnificent Mosques of the Umayyads from Damascus to Cordoba, with their proud minarets reaching for the sky! Only future Towers of Arab poetry, architecture, craftsmanship and science will restore hope and pride among the Arab World!
