Let us encourage the "Greta Thunberg Generation"... to more optimism and more science !

Time magazine named Greta Thunberg as "Personality Of The Year 2019" in its December 23 edition. It is a courageous decision that puts Climate change on the world headline and awards a young woman who is a determined activist and a "whistleblower" with wide influence.

To me, I agreed that Greta Thunberg should have won the Nobel Peace Prize in 2019, because her action inspired and motivated millions of young people on all continents and contributed to the success of strikes and demonstrations for the fight against Global warming, in September 2019, which gathered 6 million people in all cities of the world. And as it is certain that the worsening of Climate change will make whole regions uninhabitable and push tens of millions of people to flee from extreme climates and desolate lands, this is indeed the issue of Peace in the World that is on debate.

However, there is no point in opposing young people, who "would all be victims, but very aware and willing to act for the climate", against adults, who "would all have enjoyed a good standard of life at the cost of a major deterioration of the Planet". However, it is not with less economic development and less science that Humankind can reduce its impact on the Planet. It is not with economic decline, either with hostility against technologies, and with apocalyptic and depressive speeches that Humankind can positively orient its economic and leisure activities.

There are facts, verified and unavoidable, which indicate a certain direction for those who are not blinded by the ecology of fatalism and misery : solar energy produces 80 grams of CO2 per kilowatt hour, wind energy produces 11 grams of CO2 per kwh, and hydraulic power produces 24 grams of CO2 per kwh. What therefore brings these "green" energies closer to the performance of nuclear energy which produces 6 grams of CO2 per kwh. But, as soon as the sun weakens, as soon as the night comes, as soon as there is less wind, it is necessary to start the coal-fired (820 grams of CO2 per kwh) or gas (420 grams of CO2 per kwh) power plants...

Alongside Greta Thunberg, the Planet needs new world leaders to ensure that ecology is not a cry of alarm or rage, but to propose economic paths, and diplomatic consultations, capable of gathering agreement from powerful decision makers, capable of enthusing people around the world.

"The Fight For Earth" is first a Fight to regain optimism, to regain hope and positive energy, and then to spill this "Human Green Fuel" towards more Science and more Technological Powers.

As the United Nations fixed it with the Paris Agreements in December 2015. As Time magazine titled it on September 23, 2019. As the European Union confirmed it on December 11, 2019 with the presentation of the Green Deal by its President, Mrs. Ursula von der Leyen. The year 2050 is a key date for Humanity to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions, and achieve, with a kind of "control of its activities", carbon neutrality on a Global scale.

It will take a lot of creativity, a lot of Human investment, and the complete reorientation of whole parts of global activity to achieve this goal. This meeting that Humankind has with itself, this movement towards a positive presence of Human on Earth, is a real big step, but it is a first step for Human to go towards the optimized Anthropocene, that is to say caring for Nature, but also towards the acquisition of knowledges and powers which will enable Humankind to overcome gigantic natural cataclysms which are sure to arise.
